As some of you may know, we recently celebrated ten years of the OTBD. In fact, we’re so excited that we will be celebrating all year long! We kicked off our official anniversary with a celebration at Sonoma Cellar, (check out the awesome photos here, courtesy of Sarah Marcella Creative) where we launched our Shop Local Initiative and our brand new VIP program.
We’re pretty passionate about Old Town and it’s community of vibrant and unique small businesses. When our board met at the beginning of 2018 to outline our big goals for the year we felt that highlighting what makes us unique was a top priority. From there, our Shop Local Initiative was born. We realized that what people love about our little town isn’t just the historic character and small town feel, but the people and the shops that bring that feeling alive. Our community of shop owners & staff make Old Town what it is – a place to come to slow down, stroll King Street, and enjoy a shopping experience that you can’t find anywhere else.
We love being able to connect with our fellow small business owners through the OTBD to share challenges & triumphs and to work together to make big things happen. Adding a new member means we’ve got another set of hands and a mind full of ideas to help elevate our community and make Old Town the best it can be. That’s what we’re celebrating when we celebrate the OT small business community.
In honor of that, we sought out artist submissions to embody the spirit of Old Town to help us highlight these businesses. We got lucky with many amazing submissions and ultimately settled on a combination of work by local artists Cindy Wallace and Brittan Gabel. You’ll notice their work in store windows all over Old Town. Whenever you see one of these stickers, stop in and have a look around because you’re sure to find a unique shop with something you can’t find anywhere else. You’ll also want to snap a photo of the sticker so you can enter to win our Instagram contest.
Another question that came up as we planned out our big ideas for 2018 was “How can we get the community more involved in the OTBD?” Over the years we have enjoyed lots of community support, with our biggest supporters often asking what they can do to be more involved. Each and every member shop has a handful of customers that are so loyal and passionate about their shop that the term “customer” hardly seems to even fit. From that discussion the idea of VIP memberships came to be. We wanted to provide the same feeling of community that the OTBD members enjoy, a special group of people who share a passion and enthusiasm for the small businesses of Old Town. After lots of talks with customers about how they’d like to get more involved, the idea for what would eventually become the VIP program was hatched.
Customers wanted a way to feel more connected and “in the know” with their favorite shops. They also wanted to be the first to know about events, new shops, special deals and exclusive offers – and what’s more, they wanted an easy way to connect to that information. Enter VIP, the easiest way to get the most out of shopping local. If you’d like to become a VIP, click here to learn more & grab your membership today!
We hope that you’ll join us in our celebrations this year and thank you for your years of support! We’re excited to continue to elevate our community and celebrate all the reasons we #LoveLocalOT!
