It’s not surprising that the Boutique District is perceived as a girls-only club. And I can see why. Over 80% of our storeowners are women and it’s only natural that these stores tend to cater to the fairer sex. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t room for the guys, especially if you are shopping for the men and boys in your life. You just have to be in the know, and that dear readers, is why you subscribe to the Buzz.
This Sunday is Father’s Day and we have gifts. But where do you go? How do you know what stores have gifts for men? Simply put, all of our stores can help you out on your gift quest. Here’s how:
First, start with the obvious choice: gift stores. You’ll find a varied selection of glassware, bar essentials, grilling tools, books, cards etc. at stores like Red Barn Mercantile, Curated, and The Urban Attic. And Ivy Lane Living will personalize just about anything in its shop with a monogram and make it special to him.
Don’t forget the employees and owners of our stores all have fathers, brothers, husbands, boyfriends, grandpas, uncles, sons and guy friends. If their store doesn’t happen to carry products for men, there’s a very good chance they have a local recommendation from their own shopping experience. For example, the owners of The Pink Palm also own Natty Beau. It’s a Southern Proper Heritage Shop that features everything from t-shirts to ties, and even fun stuff for the bar. And it’s just a store down from Pink Palm, a convenient stop after getting your Lilly fix!
Look for gifts in unlikely places. Explore your favorite shop, as it’s likely they carry items about which you are unaware. Did you know Bellacara carries a full line of products for men? With brands like Kiehl’s, Marvis, and Proraso, your gentleman will certainly be pampered. Our Jewelry stores like Today’s Cargo, have several rings and cufflinks to satisfy all occasions. Even places that seem to be for moms only, like Pink & Brown, have gifts for new dads such as baby carriers, gender natural diaper bags, and dog tag style chew beads!
Of course, the easiest way to find your gift is to think about what interests him the most. Is he a dog or cat lover? The Dog Park has t-shirts, rugs, artwork, and towels that declare love for pets. The household Grill Master will be pleased to receive a BBQ gift crate from The Spice & Tea Exchange. Or some delicious Bone Doctor sauces from La Cuisine will cure any BBQ craving (and they have really cool Opinel carbon steel knives). And if he’s an athlete, find one of the area’s best selections of running shoes and athletic wear at Pacers.
Finally, follow our Facebook and Twitter feeds year-round to be alerted of special events and trunk shows. Right now there is a Macraw & Co. trunk show at Sara Campbell, featuring Peter Blair Ties. And Elinor Coleman’s Vintage Mirage is having a sale of 20% off all men’s jewelry and accessories.
Whether you are enjoying brunch in Old Town or picnicking at Jones Point this weekend, we wish all of you a wonderful and relaxing Father’s Day!
